Another 148 new Covid cases were reported in Shasta County from Wednesday. There are 505 active known cases, with 62 of them in the hospital and 15 in the ICU. There’s a common perception that people who have already had COVID-19 have gained immunity, but the CDC says being fully vaccinated provides better protection for those who have had the virus, with re-infection rates of less than half compared to the unvaccinated. The Delta Variant of COVID-19 is more contagious than the original virus, and also far deadlier. Older people or those with underlying medical conditions are encouraged to get a third Pfizer of Moderna shot. The flu shot is also recommended for everyone. A free drive-through flu shot clinic will be held this Saturday from 10AM to 2PM at Public Health on Breslauer Way. Information on Covid testing and vaccinations can be found at shastaready.org.
