Despite Surge In Omicron Cases Elsewhere, Shasta County Sees Sharp Decline In New Covid Cases

Because of a sharp decline in new cases, Shasta County Public Health will stop doing daily Covid reports starting next week. They’ll only release information twice a week. There have been no fatalities for over a week. Another 92 new cases were reported over the long Christmas weekend. There are 141 known active cases in Shasta County, 40 are hospitalized, and 12 are in the ICU. The state is requiring masks for all indoor public places, regardless of vaccination status. Public health officials say COVID-19, the common cold, seasonal allergies and the flu all have similar symptoms. All but allergies are caused by viruses. A chart at shastaready.org can help people tell the difference. Information on free testing or vaccination options can be found at shastaready.org.
