Winter Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands Across The North State

The cold weather is particularly unpleasant for around 4,000 PG&E customers without power in Eastern Humboldt County and more than a thousand in Western Trinity County. The rugged area between Burnt Ranch and Blue Lake, particularly Willow Creek, has been hit hard by the winter storm that has knocked down a number of utility poles, blocking roads including Highway 299, which is still subject to a full closure Tuesday morning. To the east of Redding, chains or snow tires are required from Montgomery Creek to 10 miles west of Burney. Around 200 PG&E customers in the Burney and Lake Britton area are without power. On Highway 44, chains or snow tires are required from 5 miles west of Shingletown to 3 miles west of Shingletown, and from Viola to just east of Old Station.
