Reward Offered After Hundreds Of Roadway Fence Posts Taken In Several Counties

A substantial reward has been posted for what may seem like a minor offense, but can lead to disastrous consequences. Someone had been stealing hundreds of fence posts in Tehama, Shasta and Glenn Counties. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has gotten reports out of Flournoy, Paskenta, Jelly’s Ferry, Manton and Highway 36 East. Thieves have been cutting the clips, letting the wire drop to the ground and pulling up the metal T-posts. In some cases the posts are taken intermittently but in other cases long stretches of roadway are left with nothing to keep livestock from wandering into traffic lanes. A half-ton steer can cause a lot of damage to a speeding car and it’s occupants. The Tehama County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen’s Association, the Tehama County Farm Bureau and various local ranchers have put together a reward of $6,000 in hopes of catching the post snatchers.
