Cleanup continues on Friday morning’s 8,000 gallon spill of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from a tanker truck rollover on Pine Street. A dam was built to try and contain some of the fuel in Calaboose Creek and the storm drain system where it’s being sucked out by State Fish and Wildlife crews to minimize the damage already done to the Sacramento River. The spill may cause enduring health problems. Shasta County Health and Human Services issued a warning on Friday urging people to take precautions in the Sacramento River. Drinking, swimming and fishing south of the Cypress Avenue Bridge is discouraged until further notice. Road closures were more lengthy than anticipated. Westbound Cypress Avenue remained closed until late Friday afternoon. Pine Street finally reopened early Saturday morning after a HAZMAT team from Chico assisted with getting the remaining fuel from the tankers and clearing the road. A portion of Park Marina Drive is expected to remain closed for another several days.
