With the Omicron variant of COVID-19, unvaccinated people have a 5 times higher risk of infection compared to those with full vaccinations and a booster, according to the CDC. Shasta County has a transmission rate 10 times over what the CDC considers “High Transmission”. Another 219 cases have been reported, with 45 of those age 12 and under. At least 1,557 Shasta County residents are known to have the virus, though that number is believed to be far higher. There are 87 patients hospitalized with Covid and 9 in the ICU.
