Felony charges have been filed by the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office against a man accused of being an unlicensed contractor and ripping off clients. Samuel Crain was arrested during a sting operation by DA investigators that was set up after multiple reports that Crain continued to commit fraud and accept electrical contracting jobs, even with the knowledge that he was already under investigation. The DA’s Office says he faces felony charges including grand theft for taking Thousands of Dollars up front from victims last year and then abandoning jobs before they were complete. Anyone who has hired Sam Crain for electrician services is encouraged to call the DA’s Office at 245-6300. When shopping for a contractor, it’s suggested that three bids be taken, references should be checked, written contracts should specify the work to be done and the price, and don’t pay more than 10% up front. A contractor’s license is required for any job over $500, and can be confirmed at cslb.ca.gov.
