A driver was declared dead after his car crashed early Tuesday morning on Churn Creek Road. Shortly before 6AM Redding Police were called along with medical personnel to Churn Creek Road and Hillmonte Drive near the Savemart Supermarket. A car had left the road, colliding with a street sign and a telephone utility box, and the driver was slumped over the wheel. Arriving Redding Fire Department Personnel found the man was not breathing, so they took him out of the car and started CPR. Identified as a 55-year-old Cottonwood man, he was pronounced dead after arriving at Mercy Hospital. Police say he may have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash. Witnesses or anyone else with helpful information is asked to contact the RPD Traffic Unit.
