A Redding man is accused of the severe beating of his girlfriend’s young child. Monday evening Redding Police were called to a local hospital when a 3-year-old boy was brought in with a broken elbow and head trauma. As he was taken in to surgery, the boy’s mother and her boyfriend were questioned. They claimed the boy had been pushed off a slide by another child at a Redding preschool. Because of the serious injuries and the doubts surrounding the story, the boy was taken by Child Protective Services as Redding Police investigated, along with county officials and the Children’s Legacy Center. Wednesday night the boyfriend, 25-year-old Benjamin Hamilton-Moerer was booked into jail for felony child abuse and felony battery with serious injuries. His bail is set at $100,000. The child is recovering at a safe location.
