A portion of Cottonwood was on alert Monday afternoon after explosive devices was found in front of a home on Rancho Estates Road just after 2 O’clock. Area residents were advised to shelter in place. North Cottonwood School was locked down, but students and staff were able to leave after they were all accounted for. There were a number of road closures ordered, including Gas Point Road. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office asked for help from Redding Police, who sent a bomb technician. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in rendering the 2 pipe bombs safe. Where they came from is not known.
