RPD: K9 Helps Officers Arrest Parolee Friday Evening

A parolee with a knife was arrested with the help of a police K9 Friday evening. At 6:35PM Redding Police were told that the man was threatening employees of a Hartnell Avenue business. They described him and said he left on a bicycle. A short time later officers found 29-year-old Eric Thomas-Smith near Cypress and Larkspur. He reportedly acknowledged having a knife and said he was not going back to prison. He remained confrontational and uncooperative a kept trying to walk away until Duke the K9 was sent after him and he was taken into custody. He had a fixed-blade knife on him and reportedly admitted to being on drugs. After being treated at a hospital for dog bites and other injuries, Thomas-Smith was booked into jail.
