A tragic murder-suicide that occurred in East Redding last week has been made more tragic by some confusing wording and subsequent mistaken reporting. On the morning of April 13th a 16-year-old boy called 9-1-1 from his home on De Moll Drive off Churn Creek Road, saying he had awakened to his parents fighting in their bedroom, and then he heard two gunshots, followed by silence. Redding Police responded and found the man and woman dead. The Coroners Office only released the name of the male half, 43-year-old Christopher Lee Ruth. They said the other name was not being released due to being a “confidential victim”. Names of people who commit suicide are generally not released, nor are names of people who are victims of domestic violence. In this case, it was because she was a victim of domestic violence. A Redding Police detective says they believe that Christopher Ruth was, in fact, the one who fired the shots.
