Police say a shooting at an East Redding grocery store started with an argument while both the shooter and the victim were shopping. The shooting happened at around 1:30PM Thursday afternoon at the Grocery Outlet off Churn Creek Road next to the post office. It’s not been revealed what the argument was about but when it turned physical, 78-year-old Ronald Pember allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot at the unarmed man. After being shot, the victim left the store and remained near the entrance until police and medical personnel arrived. He was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive. Pember was detained inside the store without incident and arrested for assault with a firearm. Nearby Mistletoe School was briefly placed on lockdown. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Redding Police detectives.
