Highway 299 at Whiskeytown was closed for an extended time, and then was just open to one way traffic control for most of the day, following a fatal crash. At 7:40AM Wednesday morning an eastbound Ford pickup truck crossed over the center line a little west of Whiskey Creek Road and collided head-on with a westbound tractor-trailer. The big rig driver, 29-year-old Benjamin Cathcart of Shingletown, was not hurt, but the semi truck became fully engulfed in fire that spread to vegetation. The pickup was decimated, killing the female passenger. The pickup driver, 57-year-old Charles French, was hospitalized with major injuries.
