Shasta County’s election results have been updated. The latest numbers released on Friday represent 35,718 ballots, which is almost 9,000 more than the Wednesday morning report. Another approximately 16,300 have yet to be tabulated. The percentage leads for the incumbents in countywide offices are almost unchanged from the previous count:
— County Superintendent of Schools Judy Flores still leads challenger Brian Caples by the same margin of 59% to 41%.
— County Clerk Cathy Darling-Allen still has 71% over Bob Holsinger’s 29%.
— Sheriff Michael Johnson still has 64% to John Greene’s 36%.
— The District Attorney’s race is virtually unchanged as Stephanie Bridgett holds the lead with 58% over Erik Jensen with 42%.
–In the District One Supervisor race, Erin Resner has edged closer to the necessary 50% plus one vote. Her lead is now 49.7% to Kevin Crye’s 41%.
–District 5 is the only race almost certain to be headed for a runoff, as Baron Browning’s lead has shrunk to 45.5% followed by Chris Kelstrom with 35.3%.
These new numbers include some of the ballots either dropped off in envelopes at polling places or received in the mail after Monday. This is the first primary election in which everybody got a mail-in ballot, so the number of voters who took that option was not predictable. The next update will likely be this Friday.
