Anyone who may have found a tortoise in West Anderson needs to get it back home to the tortoise sanctuary. Located on East Street, Tortoise Acres sustained a lot of damage from the Peter Fire, but was partly saved as a result of a direct fire retardant drop that left the grounds, the buildings and many of the tortoises sporting a bright pink paint job. Monetary donations are desperately needed. It’ll take Thousands of Dollars to repair and replace all the pens and boxes destroyed by the fire. The owners say offers of support have been pouring in. Money can be donated through their Paypal account firstname.lastname@example.org or at any Tri-Counties Bank. There are a number of fraudulent Gofundme pages set up to siphon money away, but the sanctuary owners say they do not have a Gofundme page, and they don’t want anybody to be fooled. Food is needed as well. They have enough food for now but they’ll be hungry for more starting next week. On Monday probation department staff and probationers serving work release will be there cleaning up. The sanctuary owners say many of the slow and gentle reptiles scattered during the fire, and they hope they’ll all be found and returned.
