A Cottonwood man suspected of domestic violence was shot to death by his victim, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called at 9:45PM Sunday night to a home on Gas Point Road, where they found Nicolas Hebein dead with a gunshot wound. Detectives say the woman who shot him had been subjected to days of continuous mental and physical abuse prior to the shooting as he repeatedly brandished a gun at her and threatened to kill her. They were struggling for control of the gun when Hebein was shot. The woman’s identity is being kept confidential because of the domestic violence situation. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for severe injuries she suffered from the abuse. She’s been released from the hospital and has been cooperative. It’s unlikely that she’ll face any charges. Hebein had a criminal history that forbade him from possessing guns. The weapon that killed him was his own home-assembled unserialized “ghost gun”.
