Local Jewish Community Responds To Anti-Semitic Flyers Found In East Redding

A member of Redding’s Jewish community says the recent distribution of an anti-semitic flyer in several East Redding neighborhoods has prompted an outpouring of good will from the area’s non-racist majority. Geri Copitch, a board member of Temple Beth Israel, says the flyers were produced by the Goyim Defense League, a white nationalist hate group that encourages monthly anti-Jewish smear campaigns. Copitch points out that the leaflet’s claim that “6 Jewish corporations own 96% of the media” is untrue, but that’s not the point. If the same claim were made of Christians it would be met with a shrug. The point is division- to isolate Jewish people from the rest of society, just like the Nazis did so well. But not in our town. Copitch says Temple Beth Israel members feel “wrapped in the warmth and kindness of strangers” with the support they’ve been shown by leaders of other faiths, parishioners, atheists, and total strangers who have offered to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them.
