Around five thousand pounds of tri-tip will be cooked to perfection in the Asphalt Cowboys’ biggest fundraiser of the year on September 11th. Money raised from the 68th annual barbecue in Lake Redding Park will be used for a variety of community needs, including equipment for the Sheriff’s Department, scholarships and Rodeo Week activities. On Wednesday the cowboys will be all over town in their yellow shirts and green bandannas as they try to sell 10,000 advance tickets for the event. A ticket gets a plate of tri-tip or chicken along with cole slaw, garlic bread and the famous cowboys beans. Diners can eat there or take it to go. There are reasons to stay, including live entertainment and an auction of some great items including a Silverthorn Resort houseboat vacation. It’ll be $12 the day of the event, but advance tickets are just $10. If no Asphalt Cowboy can be found, the tickets are also available at Lulu’s, Paint Mart or San Francisco Deli.
