A fire at Whiskeytown was apparently started from a head-on crash between an SUV and a big rig. The SUV driver was killed and both vehicles became engulfed in flames that spread to vegetation. The Kennedy Fire is burning near the intersection of Highway 299 and Kennedy Memorial Drive. The CHP says the driver of the SUV was heading westbound and crossed over into the eastbound lanes into the path of the big rig hauling produce. The collision ruptured a fuel tank on the big rig and sparked the fire, according to the CHP. As of early Thursday afternoon the fire was 25 acres, and fire commanders are confident that they can get the blaze boxed in with retardant.
