Pedestrian Struck And Killed On Highway 273 Near Wyndham Lane

A man died late Tuesday night when he was struck and dragged beneath a car in South Redding. At around 11:30PM the man was pushing a shopping cart in the middle of the southbound lanes of Highway 273 south of Wyndham Lane where the road is walled in as it descends beneath the railroad tracks. A 64-year-old Redding man driving a 2008 Buick sedan came along and struck the pedestrian, who became wedged beneath the car and dragged for a short distance. The man was declared dead at the scene and his body was extricated from under the car by Redding Fire Personnel. Redding Police evaluated the driver and determined he was not impaired. The names of neither the driver nor the victim have been released. The roadway was closed for several hours.
