A Yreka man has been sentenced for child sexual abuse after his victims were convinced to testify against him. The case against 36-year-old Edwin Ernesto Alfaro-Lopez was reviewed by the Siskiyou County DA late last year after investigations by Sheriff’s Departments in Siskiyou, Del Norte and Sacramento Counties had all failed get an indictment. DA Kirk Andrus presented the case to the criminal grand jury and subpoenaed potential victims. One of them showed up but declined to testify, but Alfaro-Lopez was indicted for abuse against two others. All three were under age 14. Early this year the girl who remained silent was again sexually assaulted, and then decided to come forward and testify about ongoing abuse. As a result, Alfaro-Lopez made a plea deal and this week he was given a state prison sentence of 29 years, of which he must serve at least 85%.
