Crews Working To Protect Structures From The Six Rivers Complex

Clear sunny skies over the Six Rivers Lightning Complex around Willow Creek has been both good and bad. The break from the humid and smoky air has allowed aircraft to support the fight, but it has also contributed to an increase in fire activity. The complex has grown to 37,081 acres, now with 64% containment. A few days ago containment was at 80%. Evacuation orders and warnings have been changing frequently this week. Updates are at community.zonehaven.com. A contingency line has been completed along Tish Tang Ridge and firefighters are struggling to maintain lines along Lone Pine Ridge and the Horse Linto area. They’ve been widening control lines to create a buffer by torching areas by hand and by the use of aerial firing with drones. A task force has been assigned to protect structures in the Trinity Village and Hawkins Bar area, where the edge of the fire is most active. The complex started as a dozen fires on August 5th and they’ve merged into two fires, the Campbell and the Ammon. Federal lands on the Lower Trinity Ranger District remain closed.
