Goats Are Credited With Helping Slow Growth Of Homeless Encampment Fire

A fire early Thursday morning in the Lost Lane area west of the Sulphur Creek Hill of Market Street was the 10th fire in that area so far this year, all of which are believed to have been started by homeless people illegally camping there. Redding Fire Department was called to the fire at around 1AM and held it to about a quarter acre. The reason it didn’t spread more quickly despite the steep terrain is apparently because goats hired by Redding Fire and REU had just recently munched down and trampled flat much of the dry vegetation.
