Cooler Weather Helping Crews Battling Area Wildfires

The Mountain Fire west of Gazelle is still showing minimal activity, but the steep terrain and dry conditions make containment very difficult. The Mountain Fire is 13,440 acres, now with 75% containment. Two structures have been destroyed and 2 firefighters have been injured. Cal-Fire is still seeking help identifying what started the fire September 2nd, with a tip line at 842-1022.

The Forward Fire that started near Manton last Friday afternoon is 63% contained and still holding at 160 acres. All evacuation warnings have been lifted.

Exterior lines have been completed on the Six Rivers Lightning Complex in the Willow Creek area, with an overall containment of 97% after burning 41,560 acres. Almost 700 personnel remain on the job, mostly working on mop-up and repair. The complex started as a dozen lightning-sparked fires on August 5th.

On Wednesday a car crashed near Paynes Creek and ignited a fire, which was quickly contained.
