Investigators Says Mexican National Was Found Murdered Near Remote Cannabis Grow

Detectives are investigating the murder of a Mexican citizen in the remote mountains of Eastern Tehama County. Last Friday a man and woman in Chico contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. They said they had gotten a phone call from someone who said their brother had been killed in a marijuana garden in the Campbellville area. Believing the location was across the county line, Butte County investigators passed the case on to Tehama County Major Crimes. Investigators from both agencies followed the directions and found the dead body of 45-year-old Roberto Berduzco Avila close to a large commercial cannabis growing operation. An autopsy confirmed that he had been murdered, although the method has not been disclosed. The identity of the killer is not known.
