In an effort to boost voter participation in the elections of County Sheriffs and District Attorneys, Governor Newsom has signed legislation that aligns their terms with those of the presidential election each four years. For Shasta County, that means a bonus two years have been added to the current terms of DA Stephanie Bridget and Sheriff Michael Johnson. Their terms will be 6 years for this round only, and will be four years thereafter. The bill also has a provision that allows County Boards of Supervisors to align other county elected positions in the same way. A proposal to do so has not yet been presented to the board.
