Three people are dead including an alleged shooter after an all day standoff in Weaverville Monday. The incident began just after 9AM when the still unidentified assailant apparently shot and killed one person on Main Street, near the Nugget Restaurant. About a half hour later, while deputies were actively looking for the suspect, he allegedly shot and killed a second person in the Trinity Center area. Deputies later spotted the suspect vehicle traveling south on Highway 3 back towards Weaverville, where the Highway Patrol also joined in the chase. The pursuit ended with the suspect fled into a home on Forest Avenue, barricading himself inside. Multiple Northstate law enforcement agencies, including Redding and Anderson Police, and the Shasta County Sheriffs Office were called to assist with the standoff. Nearby neighbors were ordered to shelter in place, and nearby schools were also locked down. After hours of calling out to the suspect by phone, and loudspeaker, officers eventually made entry into the home and found the suspect deceased. No details have been released as to the nature of his death, but the Trinity County Sheriffs Office did confirm that there were no shots fired by law enforcement during the standoff. The names of the suspect, or the victims have not been released.
